Steven Pressman

Steven Pressman earned his BA in philosophy from Alfred University and his MA in the same field from Syracuse University. With his philosophy background established, he continued his studies at New School, earning his PhD in economics in 1983.

His work focuses on the measurement and causes of poverty and the middle class, as well as the application of Post Keynesian economics to microeconomic issues. Several of his papers suggest that the government must make substantial redistributive efforts to create a flourishing middle class and reduce poverty rates. His other published work confronts issues such as the feminization of poverty, refundable tax credits for children, and progressive forms of taxation.

In addition to writing several books, he has edited over ten others and has co-written dozens of peer reviewed articles. He served as a Professor of Economics and Finance at Monmouth University. He also taught at the University of New Hampshire and Trinity College.
