Alfred University School of Art and Design serves as WNY Scholastic Art and Writing Awards adjudicator

The Alfred University School of Art and Design recently served as adjudicator for the 2023 Western New York Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition.

This year, Alfred University received more than 550 entries from 270 high school-age students living in Western New York. As the Western New York partner, the University’s School of Art and Design serves school districts in the following counties: Seneca, Yates, Ontario, Monroe, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Livingston, and Niagara.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards and the second year Alfred University School of Art and Design has served as adjudicator for the region. On Feb. 21, the School of Art and Design hosted the 100th Anniversary Ceremony for the WNY Regional Award winners, which was attended by the winners, families and educators.

Fifty “Gold Key” winners and five “American Visions” winners will advance to national review of the Scholastic Art Awards.

This partnership is made possible through collaborative efforts from across Alfred University’s Enrollment Management and the School of Art and Design/ Performing Arts Division. Special thanks were noted for Arts Admissions Counselor Lukas Perry, School of Art and Design/Performing Arts Division Assistant Dean Maria Bentley, and Undergraduate Arts Administrative Assistant Shelly Grant.

“We are thrilled to continue this partnership between the School of Art and Design and Scholastic Art and Writing Awards,” Bentley commented. “This year was historic as Scholastic’s celebrated their 100th Anniversary.  Any opportunity to celebrate young makers and their educators.”
