Alfred University Orchestra, Chorus to perform this weekend in Miller Theatre
The upcoming weekend will showcase Alfred University’s musical talents with a concert Friday by the Alfred University Orchestra and the spring concert Saturday by the Alfred University Chorus.
The Orchestra will perform at 7:30pm in the Miller Theatre under the direction of Lisa Lantz, Professor of Music/Strings, Division of Performing Arts, School of Art and Design. The concert will feature also violin soloist Candy Zhou performing Bela Bartok’s “Romanian Dances.”
Zhou is a senior in the Alfred-Almond Central School District. She has been active in the Alfred University Orchestra, in addition to performing with community groups. She also has performed in New York City venues such as United Nations Headquarters and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center with the Asian Cultural Symphony.
The concert will also include music from “Pirates of the Caribbean,” the “Harry Potter” movies, and “The Gladiator.” Additional solo performers will include Luke Piazza on trumpet and Brooklyn Liljehorn on cello. Both from the School of Art and Design.
Alfred University’s Chorus Concert will begin its Spring concert at 7:30 pm Saturday, also in Miller Theatre. The Chorus feature Alfred University students and community members and is under the direction of conductor Rebecca Weaver Hamm, with piano accompaniment by Linda Boianova.
Both events are free and open to the public.
