Alfred University students, staff plant bushes outside residence halls for Earth Day
In observance of Earth Day 2024, a group of more than 60 Alfred University students and staff from the University’s Office of Residential Communities planted shrubbery in front of the first-year residence halls on Monday afternoon, April 22.
The small bushes were planted in front of Moskowitz, Tefft, Barresi, and Cannon halls. The event was sponsored by the Office of Residential Communities and was organized by Liz Peralta and Madigan Howard, Residential Communities area coordinators.
“The benefits of the program were giving back and celebrating the Earth as a whole,” Peralta commented. “It teaches students how to plant bushes and come together to enjoy nature and being outside. It shows students that sustainability—reusing, upcycling, and planting—is important in keeping Earth clean.”
Participants made crafts (sea moss planting, rock painting) and were treated to a picnic on the lawn in front of Barresi and Cannon, with pizza, snacks, and beverages.
