Frank-ly speaking, Hot Dog Day promises a good time for all
Hot Dog Day, the annual springtime celebration hosted by Alfred University, Alfred State College, and the Village of Alfred, will be held on Saturday, April 20. This year’s Hot Dog Day events will be held at various locations in the village and on both campuses.
Hot Dog Day kicks off with the Wellness 5-K run/walk, hosted by the Alfred University Wellness Center. Check-in will be at 8 a.m. at the Village Bandstand, with the race commencing at 9 a.m. Cost to participate is $10 for K-12 students and students from Alfred University and Alfred State College and $20 for community members. Proceeds will benefit AutismUp, an organization serving individuals from the Western New York region with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and their families. Weiner dog races will be held in the Village Bandstand lawn at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Hot Dog Day parade down Main Street beginning at noon. A street fair will be held on Main Street immediately following the parade, until 5 p.m. It will feature vendors, hot dog stands, and games. Hot Dog Day 2024 merchandise will be available for purchase at the street fair.
Live music will be performed from noon to 5 p.m. in the Village Bandstand and in Parking Lot 3 on the Alfred State College campus. Zip line rides and a dunk tank will be featured from noon to 5 p.m. in the Jordan Hall parking lot on the Alfred University campus, and a carnival will be offered from 1-5 p.m. in Parking Lot 3 at Alfred State College.
Tickets for hot dogs and games will be available at the street fair and carnival.
A “paint and powder party” (for Alfred University and Alfred State College students) will be held at 7:30 p.m. on The Brick residence hall lawn on the Alfred University campus. Rain date for the event is Friday, April 26, at 10 p.m.
Proceeds from Hot Dog Day will benefit the following charities: A.E. Crandall Hook and Ladder, Alfred Montessori School, Alfred Station Fire Co., Allegany County Mental Health Association, the Box of Books Library, ARC Allegany-Steuben, the Allegany-Cattaraugus-Chautauqua Fund for Women, and the Lustgarten Foundation.
