Alfred University alumna recognized by ACerS for article she co-wrote for ACerS publication

Alfred University alumna Elizabeth Tsekrekas ’19, PhD ’24 was recently recognized by the American Ceramic Society (ACerS) for an article she co-authored as part of ACerS “Rising Star” series.


Tsekrekas was recognized for a story, titled “Structural investigation of lithium bismuth borate glasses through Raman and infrared spectroscopies,” which appeared in the July 2024 issue of the ACerS Journal, International Journal of Applied Glass Science.

journal-publication coverACerS’ Rising Star series recognizes outstanding graduate student and postdoctoral research. Tsekrekas’ article was featured in the October issue of the Rising Star series, published by the International Journal of Applied Glass Science. The article for which Tsekrekas was recognized was co-written with Alix Clare, professor of glass science and Tsekrekas’ advisor for her doctoral studies; Doris Möncke, associate professor of glass science; and  Alfred University alumna Sophia Carretto ’24 (B.S., glass engineering science).

Tsekrekas, a Derry, NH, native, earned a bachelor’s degree in glass engineering science from Alfred University in 2019 and a doctoral degree in glass science, also from Alfred University, in 2024. She is currently a post-doctoral researcher at the Savannah River National Laboratory in Georgia.
