Save the Dates! Spring thesis exhibitions and senior shows are scheduled. MFA exhibitions will open every Saturday evening from April 6 -27, and Friday, May 3, with receptions from 6 to 8 p.m. on the first day of the exhibition. Senior Shows are scheduled to open with the annual large reception on Saturday, May 4 from 4 to 8 p.m.

The Pamela Lavin Bernstein Women of Influence Lecture Series, presented by Alfred University’s Judson Leadership Center, will be offered on Tuesday, April 2, at 7 p.m. in Nevins Theater, Powell Campus Center. Screenwriter, author, and music manager-producer Sophia Chang will deliver the keynote.

Alfred University students Brian Ngatunga and Emilia Donenberg Smith have been selected to receive the 2024 Marlin Miller Outstanding Senior Award. The pair were chosen from among 21 exceptional nominees and five finalists for the prestigious honor.

Diabou Hubbard, a third-year student in Alfred University’s School of Art and Design, New York State College of Ceramics, has been awarded the spring 2024 Jerome Ackerman Internship at the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum.

Alfred University will be well represented at next week’s 2024 National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) Conference, which opens Wednesday, March 20, in Richmond, VA, and runs through Saturday, March 23. More than 80 Alfred University alumni, faculty, and students are taking part in the four-day event, highlighting the impact, strong relationships, and intersections Alfred University has in the field of ceramic art.

The Music Department/Division of Performing Arts at Alfred University hosted the Allegany All-County Music Festival #3, March 15 and 16 in Miller Theater.

Leana Quade M.F.A. ’17 is one of 10 glass artists on Season 4 of “Blown Away,” Netflix’s popular glassblowing competition. All 10 episodes of Season 4 were released on March 8 and can be streamed on Netflix.

Eric Jones ’97 used his art as an expression of empathy toward Buffalo Bills’ placekicker Tyler Bass, whose late missed field goal sealed the Bills’ fate in a 27-24 loss to the Kansas City Chief in a January 22 playoff game in Buffalo.

Jonathan Ziese, assistant professor of theatre at Alfred University, will lead a workshop during the NY Thespian Festival, scheduled for April 5-6 at Long Island University-Brooklyn.

Zhongbei Daisy Wu, master of the guzheng and clinical associate professor of music and language at Alfred University, concluded an enriching musical arts residency at Carlton College and the Twin Cities of Minnesota. The five-day residency, from Feb. 14-18, included four concert performances, a lecture, and a master class.

This is a two-week, come-and-go-as-you-please workshop hosted by artist Dennis McNett. McNett has held these workshops across the country in which participants create wearable sculptures in the form of full head coverings. There is no fee and all supplies will be provided. These workshops culminate in a procession with McNett's 12-foot puppets and costumes, happening this year on Hot Dog Day. McNett will give a public lecture on April 10 at 4pm in Holmes Auditorium

Resident Artist DB Amorin, interdisciplinary media artist who explores audio-visual non-linearity as a container for intersectional experience, will give a public presentation on Thursday, April 11 at 4:30pm in Holmes Auditorium. Amorin emphasizes the generative role of error as an opportunity for creation, resulting in media-centered projects driven by DIY methodologies, lo-fi translations, and persistent, inquisitive experimentation with available materials.

The Undergraduate Research Forum (URF) provides all Alfred University undergraduate students with an opportunity to showcase their scholarship and creative activity. Held each spring, the URF brings together an intellectual community of highly motivated students to share their work with faculty, staff, peers, and external audiences. The URF provides a unique educational opportunity for aspiring researchers. AU undergraduates gain experience in presenting their research and answer questions about their work from audience members and guests.

Opening reception of the Spring 2024 exhibition will take place on February 22 from 5-7pm. Bill and Jack and Other Friends features the recent acquisition of sculptures by Jack Earl along with companion works from the permanent collection. The exhibition is on view through July 30, 2024.
